Bring Pop to the Pops on Father’s Day, June 17th, with a selection of familiar and light hearted works. OCO will play works that are familiar from stage, screen and television as well as concert settings. Johann Strauss’ overture to “Die Fledermaus” brings highlights from the operetta, especially the lilting waltz. You will recognize the first movement of Mozart’s symphony #25 from the score to the movie “Amadeus”. Von Suppe’s “Light Cavalry” overture is from the mid-19th century operetta of the same name. From Bugs Bunny to the Lone Ranger, from the Flintstones to a chorus of clucking chickens in the Muppets, everyone knows and loves Rossini’s “William Tell “overture. You can’t forget one of Leonard Bernstein’s most famous Broadway musicals during his Centennial birthday year, Westside Story. A medley of Tunes from the award winning musical, Chicago, with vocals by Claudia Simpson-Jones and Darrell Born.
