North Thurston Education Foundation’s “Because of You” Annual Luncheon

The North Thurston Education Foundation is an independent, community-based 501(c)3 nonprofit in Lacey, Washington. Our mission is to mobilize the resources necessary to enrich programs, provide basic needs, and enhance educational opportunities for the students and staff of North Thurston Public Schools. Our vision is that every student, regardless of their background or financial situation, has the opportunity to excel and achieve their dreams.

This year, we are honored to welcome North Thurston Public Schools (NTPS) Superintendent Troy Oliver as our keynote speaker. Superintendent Oliver has served NTPS for nearly 30 years as an assistant principal, principal, and assistant superintendent. He is dedicated to providing high-quality education opportunities for all NTPS students, ensuring a well-managed district, and fostering strong leadership that supports teaching and learning.

There is no charge to attend the luncheon, but donations are encouraged. All funds raised at the luncheon go toward the Foundation’s scholarship program, Student Assistance Grants, and Learning Improvement Grants.

Every year, the North Thurston Education Foundation (NTEF) responds to our schools’ ever-increasing requests for help. Since its inception in 1989, NTEF has given over $2,500,000 to fill funding gaps so that all students have a solid bridge to their future. Last year, the Foundation contributed over $350,000 to programs supporting students’ needs.

Nearly 14,600 students attend North Thurston Public Schools. The number of students in need and the depth of requests from our local schools continue to increase, year after year. In 2022-23, over 900 students enrolled in NTPS were homeless; over 43% (6,386) qualified for free and reduced lunch. These numbers have increased significantly every year since 2008, when 225 local students were homeless, and 35% qualified for free and reduced lunch.
