The “House of Welcome” Longhouse Education and Cultural Center (Longhouse) opened in 1995 at The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington. As a public service center of the College, the Longhouse’s mission is to promote indigenous arts and cultures through education, cultural preservation, creative expression, and economic development.

The Longhouse hosts native arts, sales, exhibitions and performances; as well as provides marketing services to artists. Through residency programs with master artists, the Longhouse inspires new artists to develop their abilities and established artists to expand their capacities.

2015-2016 marks the 20th anniversary of the Longhouse Education and Cultural Center. The theme for this year is Building Upon Our Past, Visioning into Our Future. In this presentation, speakers Tina Kuckkahn and Laura Grabhorn will look at the Longhouse’s fascinating history and reveal the Longhouse’s exciting plans for the future.
