May is National Historic Preservation Month. Join City of Tumwater Museum Coordinator Carla Wulfsberg at the Tumwater Timberland Library on Wednesday, May 15 and take a visual journey through Tumwater’s history. The lunchtime event takes place from noon to 1 p.m. in the library’s meeting room.
Doors will open at 11:30 a.m. Adults are invited to bring their brown bag lunches to eat during the talk and enjoy coffee, tea and dessert courtesy of the Friends of the Tumwater Timberland Library. The event is free of charge.
The lecture and exhibit will highlight the Tumwater Historic District, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. While studying a timeline of historic photographs, members of the audience can gather clues to map the location of Tumwater’s early industries, neighborhoods and downtown corridor. The book “Tumwater, Images of America” will be available for purchase.
Tumwater’s museums include the Crosby House, built around 1860 and restored and furnished by Daughters of the Pioneers of Washington, Chapter 4; and the Henderson House, which is closed while the City works to recreate a furnished period home of the early 20th century.
The Tumwater Timberland Library is located at 7023 New Market Street, Tumwater, 98501. For more information, contact the library at (360) 943-7790 or visit www.TRL.org.
