Harlequin Productions is participating in a nationwide campaign: The Ghostlight Project. “In theater, it is a tradition to leave a ghost light on when the theater goes dark, illuminating a safe path through the space,” explains Linda Whitney, Artistic Director for Harlequin Productions. The intention of this project is for theaters across the nation, on the eve of the presidential inauguration, to make a symbolic gesture employing the concept of the traditional ghost light to publicly illuminate their commitment to diversity and inclusion.

On January, 19 at 5:30 pm, Harlequin is inviting the community to gather in front of the historic State Theater on 4th Avenue for this event. Linda Whitney will offer a few words conveying Harlequin’s continued commitment to inclusion. “We will then take a moment to light the symbolic ghost light now installed in the vintage ticket booth in front of the theater, lighting the way for all.”

Harlequin invites participants to bring a light source (flashlight, phone light) to join in this symbolic gesture. “Together,” says Ashley Chandler, Harlequin’s Box Office Manager, “as a community, we will make a pledge to stand for and protect the values of inclusion, participation, and compassion for everyone regardless of race, class, religion, country of origin, immigration status, (dis)ability, gender identity, or sexual orientation.”
