An invitation is attached to the official unveiling of the George Bush monument which will occur on November 19 and 12:00 noon. The monument is close to the George Bush Butternut tree near the north edge of the west Capitol Campus.
This monument  tells a compelling Northwest story and is a great addition to the Capitol Campus.

As you may know, George Bush was a black and thus legally prohibited from settling in what was Oregon Territory south of the Columbia River in the 1840’s.  This is the reason he and the rest of the Simmons party travelled north to the Puget Sound to found the first permanent American settlement here.
