Evergreen faculty Dr. Frederica Bowcutt will talk about the remarkable historical ecology of our local South Sound prairies. These prairies and associated oak woodlands host rare and unusual species of plants and animals. Learn how these cultural landscapes developed thousands of years ago and how Native people tended them with fire to help important food and medicine plants, browse for horses, and habitat for deer and elk. Frederica Bowcutt teaches programs at Evergreen which integrate botany, environmental history and the history of science. The talk, which is free and open to the public, will run from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. at the historic Lord Mansion, 211 21st Ave. SW
