Saint Martin’s University, the South Puget Sound Community College and the Department of Washington American Legion Band are joining forces Wednesday, Dec. 4, to perform “Ring in the Season,” a lively Christmas pops concert with multiple choral groups, holiday band music and a carol sing-along. The event, free and open to the public, begins at 7 p.m. on the Main Stage of the Kenneth J. Minnaert Center for the Arts, located on the SPSCC campus, 2011 Mottman Rd., Olympia. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
The joint concert will feature the Saint Martin’s University Chorale, The SPSCC Concert Choir, the Puget Sound Community Choir and the American Legion Band. Associate Professor of Music Darrell Born directs the Saint Martin’s chorale. Molly McNamara conducts the choirs, with Jennifer Hermann as the piano accompanist. Kevin Robertson conducts the American Legion Band, along with Diana Appler, associate conductor and manager.
“I am very pleased with this collaboration – it is really fun to launch the Christmas season with a big batch of holiday tunes,” says Born. “Our performance will include an Irving Berlin “White Christmas” medley, a Russian Orthodox carol and many traditional greats like the “Hallelujah” chorus from Handel’s ”Messiah.”
The choirs will open the concert. Following a brief intermission, the band will join the fun with a variety of musical selections before the entire cast of performers returns to the stage for a big, festive finish.
