American Civil War soldier, Corporal David Brainard Griffin, sent many letters to his family between 1861 and 1863. The letters stopped when he was killed during the Battle of Chickamauga, September 1863. Griffin’s great-great grandson, Nick Adams, has published the letters in his book “My Dear Wife and Children: Letters from a 2nd Minnesota Volunteer.” Adams will give dramatic readings at three Timberland libraries. Here is the schedule:

Wednesday, June 29, 1-2 p.m., Tumwater Timberland Library, 7023 New Market St., 360-943-7790

The book offers poignant images of Griffin’s daily activities, his thoughts, fears and emotions – the personal experiences of a common soldier. Find more information on the author’s website.
