Author Jerry Coker will read from his new historical war fiction, “Into the Wet.”
Synopsis of the book: The spring and summer of 1942 bore little good news for the Allies. The Japanese Army steamrolled south and was poised at the doorstep of Australia. An elite 6,000-man Japanese assault force has landed on New Guinea. They are racing up an incredibly rugged and steep trail known as the Kokoda Track, which will take them high into the mountains, poised for an assault on Port Moresby. The Australians throw a few hundred men at the attacking force, but they are forced to retreat again and again. It’s a battle of heroic desperation on both sides, fought in the dark and the equatorial downpours of the season, known as The Wet.
“Into the Wet” is a deeply researched, authentic portrait of the misery endured by soldiers in the South Pacific theater during the Second World War.
