Too often, Muslims are viewed as “the other” in American society and confined to discussions about marginalization or radicalization. These discussions have largely ignored the fact that the American Muslim experience is long and rich, and very much a part of the Nation’s story.
Professor Turan Kayaoglu will present a program on the history of Muslims in America at the Lacey Timberland Library.
Kayaoglu will illuminate how American Muslims have helped shape this country. He will address the interaction of racial, cultural, and religious identities; the politics of immigration and citizenship; and interfaith and religious dialogue.
