Judy Cook stays healthy to enjoy life’s activities, especially traveling. That’s why she works with the staff at Penrose & Associates Physical Therapy in Lacey through the clinic’s Pilates, dry needling, personal training and physical therapy sessions. This multi-pronged method to maintain her health keeps her going, while simultaneously addressing her osteoporosis.

“I have always had this sort of approach,” says Cook of her commitment to healthy living. “And the osteoporosis was a big signal that I needed to work better. That was an incentive. I like to travel, and I wanted to be strong enough to do that.”

Pilates Sessions at Penrose Physical Therapy Improve Patient’s Strength

Cook has been attending Pilates classes at Penrose Physical Therapy for over a year. Pilates exercises focus on core strength, flexibility and posture. “I like that they are geared for people with osteoporosis,” she says of the Penrose classes. “They tell you what you should do and what you shouldn’t do. We have a lot of fun in that class.”

Cooks adds that she can see she is getting stronger because of taking the classes. “It’s a good workout,” she says. Penrose Physical Therapy offers Pilates in small group classes.

Dry Needling at Penrose Physical Therapy Relieves Musculoskeletal Pain

Dry needling is a new treatment option at Penrose that uses needles to treat musculoskeletal pain. Cook receives dry needling treatment to address a chronic injury in her ribs. “Dry needling helps release the fascia,” Cook describes. “It’s similar to acupuncture except that it hits into the muscle.” Cooks says the treatment itself is not painful, and it also helps with her shoulder issues.

The Lacey clinic’s trained Penrose staff and dry needling equipment provide local patients with convenient access to this new treatment option without the need for extensive travel.

Penrose & Associates Physical Therapy Offers Patients Many Treatment Options

And Cook received physical therapy at Penrose as well, as part of her commitment to health and wellness and her approach in addressing pain early. She says she recommends Penrose, especially for people just beginning their osteoporosis journey.
