Track and field teams from North Thurston, Timberline and River Ridge high schools met in Tumwater at the Shaner Invite Track and Field meet Friday, May 9, 2025. The teams represented the North Thurston Public Schools as they looked to place in 1A, 2A, 3A and 4A district, league and state track events. Tumwater High School hosted the 59th Shaner Invite, which included other Thurston County high schools.
Tumwater (160 points) placed first in the girls division and placed second in the boys team competition.
Olympia High School won the boys category with 139.5 team points.
The Timberline boys team placed third with 106 points with North Thurston placing 7th (23) and River Ridge 11th (12).
In the girls competition, Timberline narrowly edged out North Thurston with the Blazers finishing 6th (45) and North Thurston 7th (37). River Ridge placed 9th (29). All results from the Shaner Classic can be found on AthleticNet.
Brad Hooper, one of the North Thurston track and field coaches, loves the opportunity for his team to compete at the Shaner Invite and prepare for the postseason. “We are a young team, but we are rising here as a team and our freshmen and sophomores are doing great and working super hard,” Hooper stated. “These meets [Shaner, Bob Atwel and Fresh Spotlight] are great for us and we get to see all the teams and competitors and it’s great for the area.”
