If you are looking for a fulfilling way to support area youth in more ways than one, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Thurston County will be setting the tables for its annual fundraiser breakfast May 22, 2025, at Saint Martin’s University in Lacey. Organizers invite the community to join them for fresh hot coffee, delicious eggs and mouth-watering bacon at the “Foundation for the Future” event in the Marcus Pavilion. Doors open at 7:30 a.m. for a breakfast and program from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.

In past years, supporters filled 60 tables. “We have held the event for over 20 years and during that time the community has shown up big for our kids and teens, giving generously to the operations of our clubs,” says Boys & Girls Clubs of Thurston County CEO Shellica Trevino.

Individuals can register online now for free tickets, and table sponsors and captains are wanted. The meal includes a short program with local keynote speaker and founder Dr. Tony Agtarap, along with inspiring stories from youth and families whose lives have been impacted by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Thurston County.

‘Foundation for Future’ May 22, 2025 Fundraising Breakfast Embraces Long-Time Community Participation in Helping Local K-12 Youth

For more than 20 years and with help from local business leaders, committed community members, enthusiastic volunteers and staff, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Thurston County organization has provided high-quality programs helping young people realize their greatness. Donations like those received at the annual breakfast fundraiser keep fees low and finance fee waiver scholarships.

K-12 youth can access the organization’s Clubs during the school year. They find safety and support during out-of-school hours and school breaks. Trevino says the more than 50% of the youth they serve qualify for free and reduced lunch and rely on access to affordable after-school care while their parents are working. “We are committed to safe and positive environments for the youth we serve, providing them with opportunities to learn and grow, and recognizing them for all they are and strive to become,” Trevino explains.

“Last year we served nearly 1,900 youth through programs at our nine Club locations,” she adds. “Our Clubs focus on academic success, good character and leadership, and healthy lifestyles. Through supportive relationships we connect with youth and their families to provide fun and engaging experiences for youth who need them most.”

And the local Clubs are growing. “Last year we served 23% more youth through our Club programs,” adds Trevino. “There are more youth who need a Boys & Girls Club experience, supporting the Foundation for the Future breakfast helps us to sustain this growth and reach even more youth in the coming year.”

Director of Resource Development Mike Babauta says community members’ patronage at events like the fundraising breakfast makes a difference. “Their support and donations directly support our youth and make our programs more accessible for those who may have financial challenges,” he says. He explains their goal for the May 22 event is to have 460 attendees at 60 tables. They hope to secure $120,000 in donations at the breakfast, in addition to sponsorships and seed gifts.

Fundraiser Breakfast Program Shares Inspiring Stories of Boys & Girls Clubs of Thurston County

The breakfast program features inspiring stories about how the community’s support makes a difference. This year’s keynote is local retired surgeon Dr. Tony Agtarap. “Dr. Agtarap is a Boys & Girls Club Alumni from the Everett Boys & Girls Club where he earned the title of National Youth of the Year, which earned him a college scholarship,” says Trevino. “Dr. Agtarap went onto help found Boys & Girls Clubs of Thurston County in 2001, committed to giving back to his local community. Dr. Agtarap will share about his Club journey and why he continues to support the Boys & Girls Clubs.”

The program includes a presentation of the Clubs’ and community members’ impact, and the emcee for the event is Kurt Cavalier Jr. Cavalier the 2025 Youth of the Year for both the Boys & Girls Clubs of Thurston County and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Washington State.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Thurston County Invite Community to Join Them as They ‘Level Up’ to Support Local Youth

Trevino says this year her organization’s theme is “Level Up.” She explains that means they are committed to leveling up for the youth they serve, and they ask the community to join them in their efforts. The May 22, 2025, breakfast includes an opportunity to donate, sponsor a table or serve as a table captain. Babauta says people and businesses interested in sponsorships or table captaining can email him directly at mbabauta@bgtc.org. If you can’t attend, you can always donate through the Boys & Girls Club of Thurston County website.
