Paul Strawn is Riley Jackson’s designated managing broker. He grew up in Grays Harbor County where his grandfather owned a 40-acre ranch in the upper Satsop valley. He encourages people to attend that are considering having a new home on acreage built but need additional assistance and guidance through the complected process and permitting.
“A new home is not that much more expensive than trying to find an existing home on a small lot,” Strawn explains. “The 2025 building code is a major upgrade in safety, efficiency and longevity compared to buying an older, existing home that most likely needs some work.”
Elma’s Schafer Crossing site is a new development consisting of 16, 5-acre lots and just 5 minutes from scenic and historic Schafer State Park. Attendees can learn about building their self-designed home or may choose to work with one of the four builders who’ll be on-site to answer questions and display their carefully drafted floorplans.
A representative from Timberland Bank will also be on hand to answer financing questions. There are even options for sellers needing contingency while they put their current home on the market.

Strawn says this is their first-ever event of this kind. Three of the four attending builders can provide a large inventory of pre-drawn floorplans and the fourth is a custom builder happy to bring your dreams to life. No homes are currently under construction and plots come with major utilities like wells, electricity and high-speed, fiber optic internet connections already in place.
With so many folks on hand to answer questions, this free, drop-in event is a great way to turn daydreams into reality.
“The featured builders are seasoned professionals who have streamlined the building process,” Strawn explains. “They are a one-stop shop, and their core niche centers on clients wanting build-on-your-lot construction. All four builders also have multigeneration floorplans and ADU options. This might be of huge interest to the Sandwich Generation needing combined family fixed income, because their parents are on social security, to offset the financing affordability in building an ADU.”
Location and Quality are Key at Schafer Crossing’s New Subdivision
The new Schafer Crossing development blends the best of both worlds, says Strawn. “The drive is just far enough to feel like you are in the county but close enough to run to town if you forgot to pick up milk,” he says. “The six-mile drive up the East Satsop road winds you next to the iconic and scenic Satsop River as well. This drive is my favorite part of the location and there are several spots where you can even access the river from the road. Summer time river floats are popular for all ages.”
