The Evergreen State College women’s wrestling team received votes in the NAIA Women’s Wrestling Coaches’ Top 20 released on Nov. 21. In addition, four Geoducks were ranked in the Top 20 of their respective weight classes.

In this week’s poll, the Geoducks received 33 points in the team rankings, placing them just two spots out of the Top 20. Grand View University (Iowa) and Life University (Ga.) shared the #1 ranking in the poll, each with 212 points. University of Providence (Mont.) moved up one spot to #3 with 161 points. University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) fell one spot to the #4 ranking with 157 points, while Indiana Tech moved up five positions to #5 with 132 points.

Cascade Collegiate Conference teams that joined Providence in the Top 20, were Southern Oregon University at #8 and Eastern Oregon University at #16. SOU and EOU both moved up one spot from the previous rankings. Evergreen was joined by CCC opponent Westcliff University (Calif.) among teams receiving votes but not in the Top 20.

Individually, Flor Parker Borrero (Jr.) led the way, as she was ranked #3 in the 160-pound weight class. Parker Borrero is 6-0 on the season for Evergreen after pinning all of her opponents. Latifah McBryde from Life stayed at #1 and Josette Partney of Missouri Baptist University remained at #2.

Nizhoni Tallman (Sr.) of Evergreen was listed at #15 in the 110-pound weight class. Anaya Falcon of Life was ranked #1 and Paige Morales from Providence was ranked #2.

Erica Grant (So.) represented the Geoducks with the #17 ranking in the 124-pound weight class. Cristelle Rodriguez from Doane University (Neb.) was ranked #1 at 124 pounds, while Maya Davis from Grand View was #2.

Earning her first national ranking of the season for Evergreen was Viktoriya Dovhoruka (So.) at 180 pounds. The top-ranked wrestler at 180 was Abby McIntyre from Grand View. Chamira Cooper from Cumberlands was held the #2 ranking at 180.

The Geoducks will be back in action on Sunday, Nov. 24 at the Spokane Open. The tournament will start at 9 a.m. and will be held at The Podium in Spokane, Washington.
