The Olympia Tumwater Foundation announces the retirement of John Freedman, its Executive Director for the past 12 years. Freedman will transition out of his role by the end of this year, leaving behind a legacy marked by economic stability, strategic growth, and a strong commitment to the community.
During his tenure, Freedman effectively led the Foundation through a transformative period. Under his leadership, the Foundation reached significant milestones, including the launch of innovative history programs, improvements to Brewery Park at Tumwater Falls, and the expansion of its scholarship and grant programs. Freedman is recognized for his financial stewardship, which ensured the Foundation’s long-term sustainability while enhancing its impact on education, tourism, and community enrichment.
“John’s dedication to the Foundation and the greater Tumwater area has been truly remarkable,” said Board President Lee Wojnar. “He has preserved the Foundation’s mission and positioned it for continued success in the decades ahead. We are deeply grateful for his leadership and vision.”
The Foundation also announces that Todd Cutts will take over as Executive Director effective December 16, 2024. Cutts brings a wealth of experience in nonprofit leadership, economic development, and community engagement. He has a proven track record of fostering organizational growth and strengthening ties with local partners.
“I’m so excited at the chance to lead the Olympia Tumwater Foundation,” said Cutts. “The positive impact that the Foundation has made historically, coupled with the prospects on the horizon, offer a unique opportunity to help enrich the quality of our community, which is what I am passionate about!”
As Freedman prepares to embark on retirement, he reflects on his time at the Foundation with gratitude. “The past 12 years have been a privilege and a joy,” Freedman said. “I am deeply thankful to our dedicated team, board members, and the Tumwater community for their support. I look forward to seeing the Foundation continue to thrive under Todd’s capable leadership.”
