The girls soccer teams from Timberline High School and River Ridge High School battled at South Sound Stadium on October 1, 2024, to a scoreless tie. A highlight of the match was River Ridge sporting pink uniforms in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Both teams played solid defense with second-half chances on both sides of the pitch.

River Ridge goalkeeper Samantha Ellis had the play of the match with an amazing save on a five-yard strike late in the game.

With the tie, both teams remained in the same place in the Nisqually division of the 3A Puget Sound League standings with the Blazers in third (Timberline 3-1-3, 2-1-2, PSL) and Ridge in fourth (River Ridge 3-2-3, 1-2-2, PSL).

River Ridge head coach Kristen Liukkonen is excited for her team and this year’s season. “We are a group that works really well together and we just have a good solid team all around this year,” Liukkonen commented. “The game between Ridge and Timberline is always a good, hard-fought game. I love playing them, good athletes on both sides, always evenly matched. We have a goal to finish in the top three for our division, and this is another result to help keep us on that path.”

Timberline head coach Chris Crowe praised his team and has been pushing his team to embrace a teamwork mentality. “We are a young team and one of our strengths is our defense,” Crowe stated. “We are trying to improve on ball control and passing and playing the ball through to the other team’s zone.”

Both teams continue Puget Sound League play with Timberline hosting Peninsula Thursday, October 3, 2024, and River Ridge hosting Lakes.
