Not much in life is free, but the City of Lacey, in partnership with North Thurston Public Schools District, has pulled out all the stops to give you the greatest show with Under the Big Top fun at Children’s Day, October 5, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Huntamer Park.
“Join us this year to celebrate the joys of childhood with free activities, crafts, games, and more!,” shares Jeannette Sieler, recreation supervisor for Lacey Parks, Culture & Recreation. “We’ll have food vendors with treats like hot dogs, meat skewers, cotton candy, popcorn, ice cream, snow cones, donuts, and much more! The event is free to attend and activities are free, you only need to pay for your food purchases.”
Under The Big Top Boosts Free Family Activities at Children’s Day 2024
Sponsored by Molina Healthcare and OBEE Credit Union, you can spend the day at Huntamer Park as if you were at the circus! Inspired by the Under the Big Top theme, local businesses, organizations and nonprofits will have booths with fun games and activities for all ages.
Molina Healthcare is so excited to have you stop by their booth. “This will be the third year that Molina has sponsored Children’s Day since I’ve been on staff,” shares Chrystal Patterson, sr. specialist growth and community engagement at Molina Healthcare of Washington. “We will be offering information on our healthcare plans and giving away Molina-branded swag along with circus-themed prizes. I’ll also be raffling off a magic set to a lucky future magician!”
Dress up in your Big Top Finest if you wish – there will be photo ops! And it is October after all – the perfect month to put on a costume and have some family fun!
“Children’s Day is one of my favorite events of the year and I’m super excited for the circus theme!” Patterson adds. “You can’t go wrong with happy kids! I’m also excited to share the day with my son who will be celebrating his 12th birthday and coming to work with me. Teaching kids how to give back in the community is always a win.”
Special Attraction: Performances by Vuelta La Luna Circus in Lacey
Of course, you can’t have a day of circus fun without acrobats, aerialists, and comedy. All this and more will be provided by very popular – dare we say infamous? – Vuelta La Luna Circus! They are returning from a 160-show tour this summer and are excited to perform their character-driven, kid-friendly variety circus at Children’s Day in Lacey. They will have two, 25-minute performances at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Performances include a variety of talent. Jason Barker, ringmaster for Vuleta La Luna, gave us the inside scoop on these crowd-please performances!
Franco the Janitor: In his quest to do anything other than his job description, Old Franco Deliante, Ariano reveals a new invention to prove he has smarts…and it’s FDA approved!
Millie the Old Lady: An elderly lady wanders onto stage, nostalgic about her stint as an acrobat in the circus and gets the surprise of her life!
Disco D:All the way from Disco Town, this high-flying aerialist will surely get you to boogie-down on her dance floor, along with an opportunity to participate as a dancing party animal!
Ringmaster Jason Barker: Back from an adventure to seek out things that supposedly didn’t exist, from items that aren’t real. It is a curious tale of ferries, jungles, and headhunters…oh my!…in a classic oddity display!
In addition to their performances, Vuelta La Luna Circus will have their interactive Kids Zone that features giant games including cornhole, Giant Jenga, Giant Connect Four, tug-o-war and more. They also have a selfie circus with props and costumes kids can put on for photos!
The Big Top atmosphere wouldn’t be complete without their roving entertainment including stilt walkers, giant bubble blowers, and hand-balancing acrobatics – keep an eye out for them!
“After having the privilege of performing for the July 3 Fireworks Extravaganza and the Thurston County Fair, we look forward to returning to familiar faces, inspiring through Circus Arts, and helping to facilitate a fun-filled day at Huntamer Park!” shares Barker.
Kids grow up too fast. Spend a day just enjoying childhood at the Lacey Children’s Day. It will make you feel like a kid again too!
