State Farm’s Melanie Bakala and her team enjoy supporting their Thurston and Mason county communities, and they found a unique way to do it through their Community Bucks Program.
At her State Farm offices in Olympia and Shelton, anyone can call for a free quote. And if they mention the nonprofit organization they are from, under her Community Bucks program she’ll donate $25 to the nonprofit. These funds are in addition to donations her offices otherwise make.
Bakala has operated Community Bucks for 12 years. During that time, Bakala and her team have donated additional funds to many local nonprofits through this program. “We have supported lots of organizations,” she says. “It’s one of our best kept secrets.”
State Farm Bucks Program Offers Free Insurance Quotes While Supporting Nonprofits
“As small business owners, we are involved in our community and I find myself writing checks, but I wanted to do more,” Bakala adds. Under her Community Bucks Program, people who contact her or her staff for a quote on home, auto or life insurance and mention their nonprofit, the $25 will be donated to the organization. There is no obligation to buy insurance. The $25 will be donated anyway.
One recent example of an organization benefiting from Community Bucks is the Paws 4 A Cause dog-friendly walk in Olympia that raised funds for research to eliminate cancer in people and pets. Several people at that event asked Bakala’s team for an insurance quote, which translated into an additional donation to the cause.
