North Thurston Public Schools Board Vice President Dr. Jennifer Thomas has announced her resignation from Director District 3, effective July 31, 2024. Dr. Thomas has served on the Board since being appointed in March 2021. She was elected in 2022.
Dr. Thomas is the mother of five children, including four current NTPS students and one college student. She helped lead the district during the COVID-19 pandemic and was instrumental in the district’s efforts to support military-connected families.
“Jennifer has helped lead our district through both exciting and challenging times,” said Board President Gretchen Maliska. “The Board benefitted from her thoughtful perspective as a parent, a business owner, a military spouse, and a health care professional. We thank her for her many contributions to NTPS.”
“While I need to step away from the Board to focus on my family and professional obligations, I am thankful to have served this community and appreciate the support of Superintendent Oliver, his Cabinet, and the NTPS staff,” Dr. Thomas said. “My children will continue to benefit from the high-quality educational opportunities our district provides.”
The district will begin the process to fill Director District 3. The Board will accept applications and appoint someone to fill the role through the next election in November 2025, at which time the appointee can choose to run for the open seat.
Information about the application process will be posted on the School Board section of the NTPS website on July 17.
