Are you a Muralist, or know one? The City of Tenino and the ARCH Commission are taking proposals for two murals in Tenino. One will be on the Tenino Timberland Library Building and the other on the Charlie Fly Field Recreation Building at Tenino City Park. This is a project of the Tenino Creative District and made possible by a grant from the Washington State Arts Commission.
Tenino Timberland Library Mural
Objective: This is a place making project that will remind visitors that they have arrived at the core of Downtown Tenino and that Tenino has more to offer at the Tenino City Park. This mural will promote connectivity between the downtown and the park.
The Mural must remind visitors and the community of Tenino’s history and the recreational opportunities that relate to that history. The mural should also be vibrant and inviting.
Theme: Tenino has a rich quarrying history. The Tenino Sandstone Company Quarry at Tenino City Park is now the Tenino Memorial Quarry Pool, which is not just a place to swim, but a place for community and friends to gather. This public pool features a unique waterfall. This waterfall is the theme of the mural. In addition to the waterfall the ARCH Commission believes this is an opportunity to highlight other features of the park such as swimmers and recreators, flora and fauna in the forest above the quarry, and as a nod to the library- a sunbather reading a book. Beyond these elements, the applicant (artists) may use their imaginations through text/imagery.
Overview: The City of Tenino and the Tenino Creative District under the guidance of the A.R.C.H. (Arts. Recreation. Culture. History & Business) Commission are seeking proposals for a mural on the west wall of the Tenino Timberland Library. This spot is visible on Olympia Street which is the home of the Tenino Farmer’s Market.
This project has a budget of $5,000 which must include all the supplies necessary to create a successful project from start to finish including priming and sealing.
Charlie Fly Field Recreation Mural
Objective: This is a place making project that will surprise visitors and create a greater sense of place in Tenino City Park. This mural will promote recreation and art in the Tenino City Park. The mural should also be vibrant and inviting.
