USL Women Beat Tacoma Capping Positive June Start for FC Olympia

The first full week of June was a winning week for the Artesian USL Soccer franchise based in Thurston County as the season progresses to the halfway point for the USL W League and the men’s squad had a week break from USL League Two division matches. The women had two USL Division games meanwhile the men hosted Crossfire Premier for an exhibition in Olympia on Friday.

The FC Olympia USL Women’s franchise recently entered the Top 10 National Rankings with their undefeated USL record of 4-0-0.  On June 7 the USL had the Artesians at #7 in the country.

On June 5, goalkeeper Shu Ohba was honored before the USL W home match kickoff at South Sound Stadium for her first senior national team cap for Japan on May 31, 2024 in Spain. FC Olympia provided a Japanese Flag with the date, location, name and result of Shu’s historic day.

FC Olympia 8 | Lane United 0

McKenna Martinez who is a Pac-12 standout forward from Oregon State University tallied two goals meanwhile Sydney Stephens (Big 10, University of Illinois) and Kailey Wilson (Georgetown University) each scored one.

Shu Ohba (Ole Miss, Team Japan) had 3 saves in the first half and gave up zero goals while Hannah Dickinson (Villanova University) played the second half to secure the shutout.

Friday, June 7 | USL2 (Exhibition)

FC Olympia 3 | Crossfire Premier 2

University of Washington’s Chad Sovde recorded all three goals for the Artesian while Jackson Ozburn (Santa Clara University) started at keeper and Weston Joyner (Chico State) subbed in to played the second half.

June 8, 2024 | USL W League

FC Olympia 3 | Tacoma Stars 0

The Artesians traveled to Bellarmine Prep in Tacoma to take on the Stars Women’s team and came away with 3 points in a 3-goal shutout win.  McKenna Martinez scored two while Maia Tabion (Ivy League, Columbia University) scored one.  Shu Ohba and Murphy Sheaff (Kansas State University, Team New Zealand) secured the second shutout of the week.
