Capital Region Educational Service District (ESD) 113 named Andrew Landowski its 2025 Regional Teacher of the Year. Landowski is a high school band teacher in the Tumwater School District.

As a band teacher, Landowski believes that music has the power to unite and inspire. Through music, he feels students can enhance their musical abilities and develop a sense of belonging and appreciation for the world around them. He believes music’s holistic approach allows students to foster stronger bonds to their school, family, culture, and community.

Landowski believes his lessons reinforce his core beliefs about teaching and learning: “that every student has the potential to succeed, that diversity should be celebrated and embraced, and that true learning happens when students are actively engaged and empowered to explore the world around them.”

The selection committee chose Landowski for this award because his dedication to students and the arts stands out in Tumwater School District and the surrounding community. He empowers students to learn, discover, and grow through music exploration, engaging them in experiences that enliven and enrich the school experience.

The Capital Region ESD 113 Regional Teacher of the Year is one of nine candidates chosen by their respective ESDs who will be considered for Washington State Teacher of the Year.  The Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction will select and announce the state winner this fall.
