Boggs Inspection Services and Home Team Dupont Welcome Military Families

Heather Derrick from Boggs Inspection Services says that their entire team supports military families. “We recognize and value the sacrifices that they make and the challenges they face,” she shares. “We believe in showing appreciation and gratitude for their service by offering them an extra discount during Military Appreciation Month.”

Boggs works with many brokers and realtors in the area and understands how important it is for families to find a safe, secure home even if it’s just for this deployment. Brokers like Tina Torfin of Home Team Dupont, who has dedicated her life to service members through home sales, government advocacy and work with the AUSA.

Broker Tina Torfin Tries to Make Every Post Feel Like Home

Torfin has a true passion for today’s military. She believes her work, both professionally and civically, is to guide these families along their journey. “They are in a new location or state every few years, put into an area where they typically have no family, no friends, very little support around them and plenty of people preying on them unfortunately,” says Torfin. “Buying a home is a huge purchase, one of the largest purchases a family will make in their lifetime. Working with someone knowledgeable is so important but only a small piece of it. It is crucial they also work with someone they trust. As a realtor it is my number one duty to protect my families I work with, no matter what.”

She does this through the simple, yet profound, gift of her time. Working with families posted around the globe equals calls, messages and video chats at all hours. This means that trusting each other and finding just the right fit are vital. “I always recommend they interview at least a couple of people,” says Torfin. “Even if I came as a referral, which is usually the case as over 95% of my current business is repeat or referral, I still want them to make sure they trust me and feel I am the right person, the right fit for their family!”

Advocating for Military Families with the AUSA

When not buying and selling homes, Torfin is active in the military community. She is the Vice President of the Association of the United States Army (AUSA), Captain Meriwether Lewis Main Chapter here in Washington State, which supports all of JBLM, Camp Murray and local National Guard. She’s also spent nearly 15 years as the President of the Lacey Sub-Chapter directly supporting soldiers and families of the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team and 17th Field Artillery Brigade.

Torfin explains that AUSA is a nonprofit educational and professional development association serving America’s Army. They do this through education about programs, products, resources and events as well as advocating and lobbying with Congress and other bodies on behalf of our soldiers.

Locally this means providing 1,300 hams and turkeys for the holidays to junior enlisted service members and their families or facilitating an October pumpkin patch event complete with cider and donuts. The opportunity to spend time together is vital, especially after soldiers return home from deployment. “When they come home,” explains Torfin, “they need to reacclimate and get into the groove of life. This gives families a break and some together time.” Coming up, they’re planning an after-hours event at the Hands on Children’s Museum.

Thankful for Community Partnerships and Supportive Volunteers

Organizing such events, including a summer fun day at the RAC that powers through more than 6,000 donated hotdogs and requires coordinating with the city, local businesses, highway patrol and more, could be a full-time job. But Torfin is thankful for partnerships she’s built over the years. She thanks Lacey’s mayor, small businesses and local corporations, and dozens of willing volunteers for all their help along the way.

Because it’s all 100% worthwhile. Torfin is mom to four girls, one of whom is currently stationed at JBLM. Being this close to home means her first promotion was pinned by her dad and first commanding officer was a long-time family friend.

Combining this experience as a military mom, tireless advocate and real estate professional means Torfin knows VA lending inside and out and will always go the extra mile. She’s also happy to answer questions about the AUSA or how to volunteer at an upcoming activity.

And don’t forget, when you find that new home, contact Boggs Inspection Services for a thorough home inspection so you can make your buying decision with peace of mind.
