Thurston Community Media (TCMedia) announces its search for community members to participate in the 2023 ‘Live at 5’ a collaborative community variety show in partnership with Olympia Film Collective (OlyFilm.)
Following TCMedia’s “Community is our middle name” motto, the program will consist of sketches, performances, and digital shorts to celebrate the diverse Thurston County area by highlighting local cultural heritage, and current events while bringing some family-friendly fun to screens across the area. The digital shorts will be produced by OlyFilm. All the content will be crowdsourced from the community, for the community.
“I’m really excited to bring this project to life. I envision this being an opportunity for the community to collaborate on a unique artistic experience,” says Robert Kam, media producer at TCMedia.
TCMedia is recruiting volunteers for the TV crew, actors, and hosts for the Live at 5 show on Saturday, June 3.
Cast and Crew Requirements
The cast and crew will be required to attend meetings to plan and set up for the live production. All talent levels and experiences are welcome! If you want to be part of the TV studio crew you must enroll in the class through Olympia Parks Arts and Recreation.
Advanced Studio Production Course: Work on a live cablecast
Class meets Thursday, June 1 from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m., Friday, June 2 from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m., and Saturday, June 3 from 1 p.m. -7 p.m. The cost is $85 but scholarships covering 50% are available to anyone who needs it.

TV Studio Production: Make Your Own TV Show
Class meets April 19, April 26 and May 3, 6 p.m. -9 p.m. each night. Cost is $85 (50% scholarships available to anyone that needs it.)
Auditions
The first round of auditions for Live at Five will be Saturday, March 25 from 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. There will be another opportunity to audition on Saturday, April 22 from 12 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Actors can make an appointment by emailing liveatfive@tcmedia.org or they can show up at any time between 12 p.m. and 4 pm. Resumes and headshots are helpful but not required. No need to prepare a monologue.
Live Show
The live television show will be on Saturday, June 3 from 5 p.m. – 6 p.m. Actors performing in the live show must be available on Friday, June 2 from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. for the dress rehearsal and on Saturday June 3 from 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. for the live show If you are not available on those days you may still participate with the planning and writing.
