Holistic Health Care in Olympia with a Personal Understanding

Duncan has been a doctor for the last 30 years, and over this time has seen a range of different modalities and approaches to human health. Beyond his professional experience, he has also suffered with his own obstacles along his health journey that prompted him to look deeper, including depression and anxiety. Even with medication and a range of treatment methods, his symptoms seemed to worsen rather than improve.

“At one point I contemplated hurting myself, and thought that there has got to be a better way,” shares Duncan. “I started the process of the inward journey to see what other practices there are.”

In the years to follow, Duncan explored many ways to cultivate better health and happiness in his own life. He found largely that the methods he and his colleagues had been using simply weren’t working, and that making changes to lifestyle were the most powerful. “What I found that worked was creating a healthy mindset and taking back my power of choice,” he says. “Our mindset is our most important skill to develop, and the key is building more willpower and developing workouts for the mind and spirit to create consistent, everlasting change.”

After making these discoveries and implementing them in his own life and the lives of his patients, Duncan saw an opportunity to help support the community at large with this life-changing knowledge. He created the STB Bootcamp with the intention of providing real support and evidence-based strategies to help people achieve health and happiness for years to come.

In order to see lasting change, the proper foundation has to be established. Many people try to tackle all of their perceived shortcomings at once and quickly become overwhelmed. Duncan recognized this inclination and has found a better, more productive way to create change. “The whole premise of the STB Bootcamp is to do the simple things better,” he shares. “Knowledge being power is not true; it is consistently applying knowledge that is power, and small, incremental changes over time that are applied consistently is where we know we are going to grow over time.”

Within this overarching idea are three primary components that are embedded in the STB Bootcamp: identity, mood and strategies. Understanding who we are and who we want to be is a critical part of implementing change. “It is all about the energy that goes with your goals and purpose,” explains Duncan. “We teach you how to tap into that and work on your belief system so you can become more confident and competent in your new skillset. From there, you can change your story and change your life.”

To do this, there must be a connection to the emotional self, or mood. Duncan teaches three aspects of mood, which are attention, self-talk and energy. “We show how people can change their energy in a moment with this three-pat process,” he says. “It consists of asking yourself, ‘What am I paying attention to, what is my self-talk, what is my energy, and finally how can I change it in this moment?’”

The strategies component involves a variety of elements, including bio-strategies, neuro-strategies, and spirit strategies. Bio-strategies involve activities of a healthy daily life and the habits that go with that, such as sleep hygiene, exercise and proper nutrition, which is a huge emphasis in the program using a Mediterranean diet to help participants develop better eating habits. Neuro-strategies dives into the science of how we as humans process information and handle events so that we can create new patterns of behavior. Spirit strategies rely on uncovering control of our imagination and self-talk by better understanding faith and fear in our lives.

“We have the superpower of choice,” Duncan explains. “We cannot choose what happens to us, but we can choose what it means. This program helps you become what I call a CEO cubed: chief energy officer, chief emotional officer, and chief experience officer. If you can apply these consistently, you can transform your life.”
