The community is invited to dress in costume and join runners, joggers and walkers at the third annual Haunted 5k on Saturday, October 29, 2022. The run takes place at Woodland Creek Community Park in Lacey. The fun run, which will include a Kids K, benefits All Kids Win. Runners can also choose the virtual race option.

All Kids Win is a nonprofit 501(c)3 corporation that provides supplemental weekend food for at-risk students in Thurston County. The program is committed to ending food insecurity by giving at-risk students the help they need so they can focus on school, go on to graduate and reach their full potential.

“On the heels of the pandemic, we are seeing rising costs impact more families across our region. The All Kids Win Haunted 5k is one way residents can give back and support their neighbors in need,” said Kelli Schueler, long-time All Kids Win volunteer and co-founder of Kesh Marketing. “The race and Kids K is a fun way for little and big kids alike to get outside to help end food insecurity one bag and one step at a time.”

The weekend program was created to bridge the gap for students who benefit from government-supported meal programs, which are available only during school days. Each week, All Kids Win volunteers deliver food bags to local middle and high schools in Lacey, Tumwater, Olympia and Rochester, as well as K-12 schools in Yelm, Rainier and Tenino.

“Supporting the work of All Kids Win means we get to be part of the tremendous work they do to feed hungry kids and make sure they are healthy and ready to learn in the classroom,” said John Kiley, co-owner of Kiley Juergens Wealth Management LCC. “Each one of us can play a role – in this case Batman or whatever goblin runners desire – in ending food insecurity. We encourage everyone to come out and support this great work.”

Last year, 86 runners participated in the race, up from 70 runners in 2020, and 22 children participated in the first-ever Kids K.

Runners who wish to wear a mask are welcome to do so and social distancing is encouraged to ensure a welcoming environment for all runners.

All Kids Win’s next event is the 12 Days of Christmas virtual auction, which will be held December 1-12. There will be silent auction items every day and a live auction item each evening at 5 p.m.
