The holiday fun makers at the Hands On Children’s Museum have been busy building boxed kits of their favorite art and science projects just in time for gift giving. Seven engaging Curiosity Kits come complete with everything a child needs to tinker, make, and create at home.
Curiosity Kits are available in a range of interests including Ornament Extravaganza, Gnome in Your Home, Mitten Critters Sewing, and Holiday Science. The larger Art Studio in a Box is designed to recreate the Museum’s art studio experience at home. The kit contains supplies for at least 12 projects with instructions, including white and colored paper, foil, matt boards, ribbons, yarn, fabric, bling bags, interesting recycled parts, markers, and crayons for the whole family to enjoy creating together. Curiosity Kits range in price from $30 to $45 with options appropriate for ages 3 to 12 plus.
Curiosity Kits can be purchased online and picked up at the Museum Store Monday through Friday, 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., through December 23. Local delivery and USPS priority shipping options are also available. The Museum Store will also be open for socially distanced holiday shopping. Museum members save 10% on all store purchases.
You can also donate a kit to a child in need. The Museum is working with local schools, libraries, and community organizations to provide free hands-on learning to the children throughout the South Sound. 4,900 kits have already been delivered with 3,200 more on the way and hundreds more requested daily.
“There is a real need right now for quality hands-on learning,” said Museum CEO Patty Belmonte. “Through our Access Program, we were already building kits to support important community organizations. During the recent temporary closure, it felt like a natural extension to offer some of our favorite art and science projects for families to make together at home.”
“A Special THANK YOU to the Hands On Children’s Museum in Olympia for putting together STEM activities and materials for our Cosi Preschoolers. They are having so much fun exploring, investigating, and sharing their learning,” Cosmopolis Elementary School.
