Yelm Community Schools is proud to announce that our School Board has been selected as a “Board of Distinction” by the Washington State School Directors Association (WSSDA) for the second year in a row. This is a rigorous application process that analyzed the focused efforts around high achievement on our K-12 emphasis on graduation, our Graduate Yelm initiative connecting with the community, and our work to add student representatives to the board. A panel of ten judges evaluated the evidence to determine if there was a clear connection between the board’s leadership and student success.
Yelm was categorized in the medium sized district with 1000-9000 students with 14 other districts. At the state conference on November 20, one district will be awarded the highest recognition as Board of the Year.
“The judges were very impressed,” said WSSDA Director of Leadership Development Tricia Lubach. “Not only by the emphasis each of the boards placed on ensuring equity and access for their students, but also that they did so in unique ways that were tailored to their specific communities.”
