Olympia and Beyond Sports Commission is accepting applications for the Sports Commission Advisory Committee. The committee guides the sports commission’s efforts in identifying new events and opportunities to drive sports business to the region and steers the annual Sports Awards that recognize local sports contributors, athletes and coaches.
Community members and businesses involved in supporting sporting events, managing sports venues and school athletics are encouraged to apply. Responsibilities of committee members are to identify strategic opportunities, revenue streams and local businesses who could directly benefit from sports tourism. The committee also guides the sports awards process, advocates for submissions and selects award recipients.
Applications are reviewed and approved by Experience Olympia & Beyond’s board of directors. Applications are due by Friday, September 27 at 5:00 p.m. and are found here.
The sports commission is a division of Experience Olympia & Beyond. The commission connects event organizers to venues, hotels and services and looks to actively attract new events through sponsorship resulting in sports tourism dollars that support a healthy economy and community vitality. Recent events include Battle Northwest, a regional flag football tournament, and WIAA State Golf Championships.
