Teams of four or individuals are encouraged to register by August 16 so they don’t miss out on this fun golf tournament for a great cause. Registration will begin at 9:00 a.m. on September 13, followed by team photos at 9:15 a.m. All the fun starts at 10:00 a.m. with an exciting shotgun start. The tournament is a golf scramble, creating a more relaxed atmosphere than a typical game and removing the pressure of individual scores while retaining all the fun of group competition. There will also be new on course games this year, to add to the fun of the day.

During the Tee it Up for Tots tournament, a light lunch will be served at Ocean Shores Golf Course. When the tournament is over, head to the Quinault Beach Resort and Casino for the banquet with food, prizes and awards. Prizes include best score, best dressed, longest drive, most fun, closes to pin and highest score.

“United Way is a fantastic organization doing phenomenal things for this small part of our world,” says Mark Palmer, marketing director for Quinault Beach Resort and Casino and a board member of United Way. “QBRC is a sponsor for this tournament. We reach out to our vendors and partners that we work with to sponsor the event as well. We hold the awards ceremony back at the Casino after the tournament and donate some of the prizes given away. We also provide several teams that play in this fun event.”

Making a Divot in Grays Harbor County Poverty with United Way

All of the fun of the Tee it Up for Tots Golf Tournament is in support of a serious problem facing many in Grays Harbor: poverty. According to United Way, one out of four people in Grays Harbor and Pacific Counties struggle with providing basic necessities. United Way works to help individuals and family move from “poverty to prosperity through a multi-generational approach.” Currently, they have 17 programs that help them achieve their goals throughout our communities.

They could not do this important work without generous donations from individuals and businesses in our area. “United Way is honored to have Alpha Media Grays Harbor and Quinault Beach Resort and Casino sponsor this tournament on our behalf,” says Kelley McDonald, United Way executive director. “They are incredible organizations whocontinually give back to this community. Their passion and dedication are amazing!”

Proceeds from the Tee it Up for Tots Tournament are distributed among the United Way programs that support children in Grays Harbor and Pacific Counties. These include COPE:  Snug Harbor; Haven House; Care & Kids; Harbor Afterschool; Late Night; Feed the Hungry; GH CASA; Beyond Survival; South Beach Christian Outreach; Connections; Salvation Army Family Services; and United Way Emergency Fund.

Over the last 14 years, Tee it up For Tots has raised over $150,000 for United Way. “What is raised here, stays right here,” says McDonald. “So, naturally, as funds increase from this annual event, the impact to our community expands as our programs are able to serve more families and their children.”
