Westport Winery earned top honors at the 15th Annual Denver International Wine Competition on June 22 and 23. Shorebird, the winery’s stainless steel-aged Chardonnay harvested at Conner-Lee Vineyard in the Columbia Valley AVA, received a gold medal. The tasting notes say this is like a “sophisticated soaring starburst, clean and crisp.” A portion of the proceeds from each of Westport’s wines benefits a local charity. Shorebird appropriately benefits the Grays Harbor Audubon Society. The winery recommends this wine be enjoyed with either fresh or pan-fried oysters in their award-winning Sea Glass Grill. The sculpture commemorating this wine created by Aberdeen artist Mike Peterson is located near the winery’s 7.5KW solar array. The watercolor Puffin on the label was painted by Camarillo, California, artist Darryl Easter.

Swimmer also earned a gold medal. This is a Petite Sirah crafted from grapes picked at Olsen Brothers Vineyards in the Yakima Valley AVA. It is described as a “tattooed biker wine, muscular and dangerous.” It is paired with their signature Bacon Jam Burger. Each wine also boasts a musical pairing and this one fits well with Bat Out of Hell by Meatloaf. This wine benefits Battlefield to Ballroom and organization dedicated to assisting military personnel who are battling Post Traumatic Stress. The sculpture honoring this wine was created by Elma artist Frank Ratte and is located in the Beauty From Ashes Garden. This wine’s label features the Director of Winemaking, Dana Roberts, as a young swimmer on Maui where he was born. Dana, his sister Carrie, and his parents Blain and Kim, are the owners of the winery.

Westport Winery Seaside received the 2019 Rising Star Award from the Seaside Chamber of Commerce. Westport Winery and the Roberts family were honored with Seattle Business Magazine’s Community Involvement Business of the Year for 2018. In 2017 the Westport Winery Garden Resort was named Greater Grays Harbor Business of the Year.
