The Pocket Gophers lost the WWPL Championship last season to the Goats in an exciting 2-1 match on the last day of the season up in Bellevue.

“We’re definitely excited to host this match,” said Troy Kirby, Pocket Gophers Chairman/President. “It’s a win for locally not just for soccer fans, but for those who want to see a premiere event take place.”

Singing the national anthem will be John Heinley, who is usually behind a kettle corn oven during area fairs and gatherings.

“We wanted to really have a national anthem singer with some pop, right in time for Memorial Day,” said Kirby. “Heinley told us he was up for anything, we just said there’s no need to dress up in a tuxedo or speedo. He agreed, reluctantly.”

The Pocket Gophers will be bringing back their six-foot soccer balls at halftime, which was a hit at the last match.

“Memorial Day Weekend is a special one for us,” Kirby said. “We’re going to make some noise with a free bam-bam stick giveaway.”

Bounce houses by Charlie’s Safari, a free video game trailer accessible for kids, and full concessions by On The Grind Espresso will be available as well.
