The City of Olympia is looking for citizens interested in serving on the Olympia Heritage Commission.

The Olympia City Council established the Heritage Commission to identify and encourage the preservation of the City’s historic resources by:

  • Initiating and maintaining a Heritage Register of Historic Places and reviewing proposed changes to register properties;
  • Raising community awareness of the City’s history and historic resources; and
  • Serving as the City’s primary resource in matters of history, historic planning and preservation.

Like all City advisory committees, the Heritage Commission provides a structured way for citizens to share opinions and perspectives, study issues, develop recommendations, and provide the Olympia City Council advice from the citizen perspective.

The Heritage Commission application period runs until Thursday, May 16, 2019, at 5 p.m.  Membership terms generally run for three years, with appointments ending March 31. Applications are currently being accepted to fill two vacancies on the Commission.

Applications and details on the application process are available online through the City website olympiawa.gov/advisory
