The 17th Annual Cool Jazz Clean Water, a fundraiser event put on by nine area Rotary Clubs, will be held on November 17, 2018 at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. The daytime portion of the event will give Thurston County high school jazz bands a chance to showcase their skills during the first part of the day, then at night, adults will enjoy a cool jazz band, wine and beer tastings, and bid on silent auction baskets. The annual fundraising event will raise funds to purchase new and refurbished band instruments for students, sponsor youth to attend the Youth Summit and Camp Hope, and fund Rotary Club International water projects in developing countries.

About Cool Jazz Clean Water

Cool Jazz Clean Water Event started in 2001, as a way to raise funds for an International Humanitarian Project that included water projects in Malawi Africa. That first event combined the offering of a unique venue for area high school jazz bands to participate in an adjudicated music event, and an evening Jazz Concert for the community.  Approximately $20,000 of the net proceeds from this first ticketed and sponsored event went to fund water projects in Malawi.

Over the next sixteen years, the event has evolved into a program that is presented as the “Cool Jazz Clean Water Capital Jazz Festival and Wine Tasting Event,” or “Cool Jazz Clean Water.” The net proceeds are split between funding Rotary-sponsored water projects in Africa, purchase of new and refurbishing instruments for the four local School Districts for low income students and the rest is designated to a jointly planned “working together for youth” workshop attended by leaders from Thurston County youth programs and opportunities for youth to attend Camp Hope.
