Veterans and their family members have a new, no-cost option to get to medical appointments at the VA Medical Center at American Lake. The Lacey Veterans Services Hub now offers regularly scheduled van transportation between the Veterans Hub and the VA facility on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

The free service leaves the Veterans Hub, 4232 6th Avenue SE on the South Puget Sound Community College Lacey Campus, at 8:05 a.m. The return trip departs the VA Medical Center after all passenger appointments have concluded for the day. Veterans who ride the Thurston County Rural & Tribal Transportation System can connect with the Veterans Van service at 7:50 a.m. at Tumwater Square, located on Cleveland Avenue (adjacent to the Tumwater Safeway).

To reserve a seat, riders should call the Lacey Veterans Services Hub, 360-456-3850, at least 24 hours in advance. Standby passengers are accommodated on a space-available basis.

Intercity Transit provided the van for the new service. The agency’s Van Grant Program awards retired vanpool vehicles to community organizations through a competitive process, rather than selling them at auction.

The Lacey Veterans Services Hub, jointly funded by the City of Lacey and Thurston County, connects Thurston County Veterans with on-site access to more than fifty service partners and providers.
