A new Ice Chips flavor as unique to Thurston County as the rolling mounds it represents has just been announced. After putting the flavor to public vote, the new winning flavor of Ice Chips is Mima Mounds Macchiato.

Made with Olympic Crest Coffee’s Beyond Blend, the new flavor is in celebration of the new South Sound Coffee Trail, launched in December.  The self-guided coffee trail features three local roasters (Batdorf & Bronson Coffee Roasters, Olympia Coffee Roasting Co. and Olympic Crest Coffee Roasters) where you can learn about the origin of the bean at a cupping or try their handcrafted roasts.

The new flavor was announced at the Annual State of Tourism Meeting, hosted by Experience Olympia & Beyond. The visitor & convention bureau teamed up with the famous grannies at Ice Chips and sent three flavors to public vote. Attendees got to take a tin home and the flavor is available for tasting in the Ice Chips tasting room in Tumwater. The flavor tastes like a salted caramel macchiato.

“We love doing projects where we get to promote our great destination to visitors and highlight a local business that creates a handcrafted product. Mima Mounds Macchiato is delicious, and we hope you all like it as much as we enjoyed creating the new South Sound Coffee Trail flavor with the grannies at Ice Chips,” said Shauna Stewart, chief experience officer at Experience Olympia & Beyond.

Sofie’s Scoops helped unveil the new flavor with specially made gelato in the flavor of the new Ice Chips. Attendees got to sample the flavor at the meeting and it’s available for a limited time at Sofie’s Scoops. Get there quick before it’s all gone!
