The Washington Center for the Performing Arts is committed to providing a wide variety of entertainment all year long. This season alone covers the spectrum from the calypso sounds of the Afro-Caribbean music group Tiempo Libre to the Olympia Symphony Orchestra with everything from bluegrass to jazz in between. Experience an eclectic mix of music types in one fantastic show this month at an Evening With Lyle Lovett and Robert Earl Keen.
The two revered musicians will be meeting on stage together January 27 at 7:30 p.m. for a fun evening of stories and acoustic music not to be missed. Lovett and Keen are two of the music industry’s most prolific and energetic performers. They attended college together at Texas A&M University in the late 1970s. They spent their evenings playing music together on the front porch before going on to grow their own illustrious, individual careers. Now they are back touring together and giving audiences a peek into their over 40-year collaboration and friendship.

Lyle Lovett debuted his first album in 1986 and just three years later won his first Grammy award for Best Country Vocal Performance. Lovett has produced 13 albums and won three more Grammy awards since that first one along with countless nominations for songs like If I Had A Boat and Cowboy Man. A perfect fit for the Washington Center, his music includes all the well-known country and western themes he is known and loved for. Lovett also incorporates folk, swing, jazz, blues, and gospel tones in much of his music.
Lovett is widely known as a songwriter and performer and some may remember his acting as well. Did you know that he is also credited with over 60 soundtracks to movies and TV shows? Parenthood, True Blood and Dawson’s Creek all share the honor of a Lyle Lovett tune or two during their run on television.
Robert Earl Keen is a member of the Texas Heritage Songwriters Hall of Fame. Coming off his Country Jamboree Tour, Keen is ready to hit the road again with longtime friend Lyle Lovett. Keen loves performing for a crowd and says that the “two hours I spend on stage are the two best hours of my day.” Keen has 18 albums to draw from so two hours is only enough to scratch the surface of the full breadth of his work, but he will have fun trying.

Lyle Lovett and Robert Earl Keen are both storytellers and audiences are sure to be wowed with favorites from Keen like The Road Goes On Forever or a soulful rendition of Keep Us Steadfast from Lovett’s 2012 album Release Me.
