Thurston County Authorities Have Opened 183rd Street After Fire

As of 2:00 p.m., authorities cleared 183rd Street east and west of I-5 and have opened it to all local traffic. Law enforcement is reminding drivers to watch for cross traffic and firefighting equipment, and be mindful of their speed.

The level three evacuation status remains in place. Residents with proof of residency may return to their property. Authorities will reassess the evacuation status as the day progresses.

Janet Pearce, Department of Natural Resources Communications Manager said:

“We want to remind citizens to pay attention to their surroundings and be cautious of any outdoor activities.” She said, “Even a lawnmower can start a fire.” 

Current Status

Fire crews are continuing to extinguish fires and are assessing the burn area to determine actual acreage burned and lost structures. The fire is 100% contained within the fire lines with an estimated 485 acres burned. Currently, the cause of the fire is unknown.

Approximately 200 personnel working on the fire including fire crews, law enforcement, road crews, power crews, and incident command. The teams are assessing hazards including trees, the number of affected structures, burnt material, downed power lines, runoff, and hazardous materials.
