Summer is all about flash. Whether sparkling sunny days or festive firework nights, it’s a season of nonstop family, friends and fun. Come enjoy shining chrome, revving engines and life behind the wheel at Little Creek Casino Resort’s annual Cruise at the Creek.

Happening Saturday, July 22, this is the free event’s festive fifth anniversary. Casino marketing project coordinator Tanner Weiks loves that it’s an all-ages day “with a little bit of everything – anything with a motor is welcome.” Traditional entries of restored hotrods and vintage automobiles mingle with new cars, motorcycles, boats and even racing lawnmowers!

Registration for contestants is open until the festival kicks off at 10:00 a.m. Saturday morning. Vehicle sign-ups are $20 each in categories including Top Cheese Rat Rod, Homebuilt Heathen, Righteously Restored, Twisted Chrome, Feisty Foreign, Keepin’ it Steel, and Chopped, Channeled and Slammed. Entry fees include the Saturday car show, a Friday night area-wide Poker Run on July 21, and guest judging by Mark Worman and the stars of Graveyard Carz.

Participants also receive “prizes consisting of goodie bags, t-shirts and free play.  Category winners and their respective runner ups will be awarded commemorative trophies and awards to go along with their bragging rights,” says Weiks.

Weiks explains that over the years, “the number of cars, vendors, and patrons have increased every year, with over a million dollars’ worth of high end cars inside the Event Center.” In the future, the Little Creek team hopes to “continue an incredibly fun event that the entire family can attend; a show that allows folks to show off their projects, their hard work and their passion surrounding anything with a motor.”

2016 saw just under 500 registrants and typically more than half return year after year. Hosted in conjunction with the Old Timers Car Club in Shelton, they hope to expand and grow. Highlighting the 50th anniversary of the classic American Camaro, Cruise at the Creek celebrates our national obsession with speed, design and mechanical beauty.

Before the afternoon awards ceremony, attendees can sing along with Styx tribute band Borrowed Time from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Warm up your pipes with videos of the Seattle-based group’s powerful ballads on their Facebook page.

But the day holds more than wandering, daydreaming and drooling over all the sweet rides. Vendors inside and out will bring all manner of themed merchandise and the 94.5 ROXY Roadshow will be streaming live. Inside the casino, sign up for the free Players Club to find bonus gaming promotions and discounts resort-wide.

While cooling off indoors, enjoy one of Little Creek’s many delicious dining options from the casual Water’s Edge Café to the decadent Squaxin Island Seafood Bar. But save room for a trip through the Skookum Spirit Cigar Bar.  Marketing promotions coordinator Jennifer Brines loves that it has become “a popular place for cigar and wine lovers in the area and is something unique to our resort. It has a full humidor and large variety of cigars and wines. Wine tastings are hosted in this lounge every Wednesday night.”
