Washington Orthopaedic Center has been serving their patients in Lewis County since 1973. The surgeons continue to provide quality care to area residents while remaining true to organization’s guiding principals of service and ethical care.

Over the years, the practice has grown in size as well is in the scope of patients served. The surgeons and staff at Washington Orthopaedic Center began to realize that nearly 30% of their patients were making the trek down I-5 from the Olympia area to see them at their Cooks Hill Road clinic. As the needs of their patient population grew, the surgeons at Washington Orthopaedics listened. They are pleased to announce that they will be opening their new clinic, Washington Orthopaedic Center – Olympia, on June 1.

Washington Orthopaedic Center will now have two locations to serve their growing patient needs. All five highly trained surgeons will be rotating through the Olympia clinic ensuring that patients have easy access to all of their expertise.

Washington Orthopaedic Center offers a wide range of surgical services including arthroscopic surgery seen here.

Have a torn ACL or a case of tendinitis? Two sports medicine physicians are available to evaluate your sports injuries. Sports Medicine Fellowship trained, Dr. Morishige has been actively involved in the care of athletes from high school students to professionals.  While Dr. Scott Slattery, who holds a subspecialty certification in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine, is not only the team physician for Centralia College, but also active in the physician pool for the US Ski and Snowboard team.

In addition, Dr. Slattery is one of the few surgeons in the region, who is trained on the direct anterior approach to total hip replacement surgery.  With this, he is also one of a select group of surgeons with access to the only two HANA tables in the area.  The HANA, which is an acronym for Hip And kNee Arthoplasty, allows far better visualization and access to the physician during surgery. Using the direct anterior approach to hip surgery allows patients to recover more quickly and return to their normal activities. These patients are often walking the very next day.

The physicians at the Washington Orthopaedic Center are committed not only to their patients here in the Pacific NW but also to making quality healthcare accessible worldwide. Many of the surgeons have participated in mission trips. Both Dr. Keith Anderson and Dr. Keith Birchard have led mission trips to the Dominican Republic and Papua New Guinea.

Education is another important interest of the physicians at the Washington Orthopaedic Center. All of the surgeons participate in continuing education and three of them are regularly lecturing and teaching on a national or international level. Dr. Michael Dujela is an instructor of surgical technique to surgeons from around the world. As the national chairman of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons Education Committee he lectures regularly on emerging technologies while Dr. Slattery and Dr. Morishige often teach arthroscopic technique to other surgeons at the national level.

For patients in the South Sound this means that they are receiving access to cutting-edge surgical techniques resulting in better outcomes and faster recovery times. The surgeons at Washington Orthopaedic Center want to get you back on the slopes, back on your bike or back to work as quickly as possible.

The opening of the Washington Orthopaedic Center – Olympia will provide patients in Thurston County easy access to this world-class care. The physicians will care for patients of all ages from children to seniors. Having a second location means more access and more convenience for patients. “We want to meet the tremendous demand of our current patients,” explains Dr. Dujela. “It will be much more convenient for those referred to us by our network of physical therapists and other sports medicine professionals.”

The newest location in Olympia will offer the same convenience that patients have enjoyed in Centralia. Patients are often seen within 24 hours and will be seen by one of the five physicians.

Washington Orthopaedic Center has been committed to supporting the community both in Centralia and Olympia. The new clinic opening will allow them to continue to expand their sponsorships in Thurston County. They are currently proud sponsors of several youth sports teams, the Boy Scouts of American and the Boys & Girls Club to name just a few. An entire wall in the waiting room at the clinic on Cooks Hill Road is filled with plaques and photos commemorating that commitment to the community.
