Ed Galligan, Executive Director, was honored as Boss of the Year at the Thurston County Chamber of Commerce Forum. This designation honors exceptional leadership in the workplace through innovation, communication, vision, execution, ethics, service and/or knowledge.
Ed was selected to receive this award after being nominated by his employees for demonstrating trust through compassion, patience, and loyalty and encouraging his staff to be innovative, seek continuous learning opportunities, and fully participate in the decision making process at the Port.
Under his leadership, the Port received the 2014 Washington Public Ports Association “Port of the Year Award”. Galligan has prioritized environmental innovation under his leadership at the Port. The Port recently built a state-of-the-art storm water treatment facility for the Marine Terminal Operations. This nationally and regionally recognized facility has won numerous awards for its ingenuity in addressing our region’s concerns over the long-term health of Puget Sound.
In addition, under his leadership, both the Swantown Marina and Swantown Boatworks have received national recognition for their environmental stewardship initiatives. Ed understands that through innovation, the needs of the environmental can be met in a manner that is consistent with the culture of the community within which the Port operates.
Saint Martin’s University business students played an important role in the selection process by interviewing finalists and gathering data for the selection committee.
