The name Ernest Evans may not be familiar, but almost everyone knows that ‘C’mon baby’ is followed by ‘let’s do the twist!’ Ernest Evans took the name Chubby Checker as a teenager and the rest is iconic musical history. ‘The Twist’ was the number one song on the billboard charts back in 1960 yet its driving beats, swinging dance moves, and catchy lyrics make it as vibrant today as it was over 50 years ago.
Saturday, April 5, Chubby Checker will bring his renowned exuberance to a live concert at Rochester’s Lucky Eagle Casino. Doors will open at 7:00 p.m., with the show beginning at 8:00 p.m. and tickets are sure to sell out fast. The Casino’s 975 seat auditorium is almost always full, so advance ticket purchase is recommended. Prices range from $15-45 for Players Club Members and $20-50 for everyone else.
Lucky Eagle Promotions and Events Specialist LuWana Hawley says that the casino tries to host at least one major concert a month. The calendar is available online through July and features such notables as Rodney Carrington, Kenny Rogers, and John Michael Montgomery. These are in addition to weekly live events featuring new music, bands, and performers.
While visiting the Lucky Eagle, visitors are encouraged to sample their many restaurants and explore a huge array of games. Chubby Checker’s numerous hits include “The Fly,” “Dance the Mess Around,” “Pony Time,” “Let’s Twist Again,” and “Limbo Rock.” He has been celebrated for his many popular recordings, and is known as the only artist to have five records on the Top 12 at one time. In 2013 he received the Sandy Hosey Lifetime Achievement Award from the Artists Music Guild.
Hawley says that all the events at the Lucky Eagle are a thrill but she’s really “looking forward to seeing our guests dancing in the aisles and doing the twist!”
