John Carey, 88, received a free haulout in honor of Swantown’s 10,000th haulout.

Swantown Boatworks celebrated its 10,000th haulout on Monday, Nov. 4th.

The lucky recipient of the honor was John Carey who received a free haulout for his Yankee 30’, Hana.

Carey purchased the sailboat in Seattle in June and sailed it solo to Desolation Sound in British Columbia, where me met with friends and then sailed solo back to Olympia. Such a journey is no small task, especially for a man who will be 89 in January.

Harbor Director Bruce Marshall said, “All of us at the Boatworks are thrilled that the prize went to Carey, an adventurous sailor who had recently purchased his dream craft.”

Swantown Boatworks, a Port of Olympia facility, opened in March 1999 on the East Bay in downtown Olympia.
