Join us, once again, as Masterworks Choral Ensemble hosts the Pacific Northwest Harmony Sweepstakes A Cappella Festival. The event is scheduled for7:30pm on Saturday, March 16, at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts in Downtown Olympia. This concert is sponsored by WSECU & Mikael Kautsky DDS PS.
Experience a kaleidoscope of vocal sounds in an exciting a cappella showcase that celebrates the human voice in all its musical forms. The region’s top a cappella groups will dazzle you with exquisitely superb harmonies, complex arrangements and smooth choreography as they compete in an exhilarating evening of vocal harmony.
“A cappella” is most often defined as “vocal music without instrumental accompaniment.” While every sound originates with the human voice, a cappella performances lack nothing of the traditional music experience. With an unlimited palette of vocalizations, these talented groups create magic as they sing, harmonize and imitate percussion, horns and other instruments. The variety of possible styles – including jazz, pop, gospel, barbershop, folk, world, doo-wop blues and more – is a big draw for audiences. An evening of a cappella offers music lover’s a unique and a refreshing change and its broad appeal will entertain and delight audience members of all ages.
The Harmony Sweepstakes has been delighting audiences for over a quarter of a century. The Festival was the inspiration for the NBC hit show The Sing-Off. After the PNW performances, audience members will vote for their favorites while judges select the winning group, who will continue on to compete in front of an enthusiastic audience of a cappella fans at the National Finals in San Rafael, California.
Returning to emcee again this year is, Disc Jockey Smilin’ Jay. Musical hosts/guest performers, Six Appeal, also return to the Washington Center stage after their 2012 wins as Pacific Northwest Region AND National Harmony Sweepstakes Champions! Part vocal ensemble, part comedy group, part rock band, Six Appeal’s dynamic range of musical styles allows them to move effortlessly between genres and span decades of popular music including classic oldies, current chart toppers, and catchy original tunes.
Despite the group’s cheeky name, these six talented young men know how to put on an electrifying performance and captivate audiences with their vocal dexterity and adventurous song selections. Six Appeal will satisfy your musical sweet tooth, fill your heart with laughter, and leave you wondering how in the world they pulled it off using just their voices.
