The Olympia School District Education Foundation (OSDEF) will present the musical “Is There Life After High School?” at Olympia High School Performing Arts Center Feb. 21-23 starring the OSD Players. This annual fundraiser combines professional-caliber performances and community building to raise funds to invest in Olympia classrooms.
The play is a warm and humorous look at life in high school told from the perspective of people who graduated years earlier through lyrical, warm songs. The actors are all teachers and staff from the Olympia School district or relatives of employees. Returning to direct is Olympia High School drama teacher Kathy Dorgan with choreography by teacher Colleen Powers.
OSDEF and the OSD Players have an eight year history of collaborating on the annual production as a fundraiser for the foundation’s grants program; however, the history of school district employees putting on a show dates to 1993.
“The play is the highlight of our year,” said Ann Flannigan, OSDEF Board President. “It raises thousands to put to use in classrooms through teacher grants to enhance our kids’ education. Plus, it’s just always such a fun show to see! The quality of performances is amazing with all the talent there is in the district.”
Past Olympia School Superintendent Bill Lahmann always participated in the shows. Will new Superintendent Dick Cvitanich accept the passing of the torch, rather, script? Flannigan didn’t directly confirm but added, “Traditions are important and I think the community will be pleased.”
Performances are at 7:00 pm Feb, 21, 22 and 23 with an added matinee at 2:00 pm Feb. 23. Tickets are available for purchase online at www.seatyourself.biz/olympiasd or at the door. Group sales and accessible seating can be reserved by special arrangement by calling the OSDEF office at 753-8853.
OSDEF is a 501(c)3 registered non-profit organization whose mission is to support and enrich education and remove barriers to learning for students in the Olympia School District. Additional information can be found at osdef.org.
