Olympia’s Fisher Jones Family Dentistry: Where Family is More Than A Name

Many businesses include the word “family” in their name.  It conveys to customers that the business welcomes all ages and can serve the entire family.  When Fisher Jones Family Dentistry included it in their name, its meaning went much deeper.

Located on Pacific Avenue in Olympia, the doctors and staff at Fisher Jones take being a family very seriously.  The dental team includes Dr. Matthew Fisher, Dr. James Jones, and Dr. Garrett Barker.  Their practice is based on the core idea that all patients are an extension of their own families.  They make it a priority to know their patients – participate in their joys and sorrows, attend their weddings, celebrate the birth of a new child.  Patients, who come to Fisher Jones, come to stay.

Longevity in their patient relationships is echoed in their staff with over ten employees serving more than ten years with the practice.  The dentists’ spouses also play a key role in the business.  Mary Ellen Jones and Michelle Fisher serve as the Administrators for the office and Allison Barker assists them when she isn’t chasing her young boys.

Patients appreciate seeing the same friendly dental assistants on each visit. The practice is proud of its employee longevity.

When I met with the team from Fisher Jones, I didn’t schedule an appointment at their offices after hours or between patients.  I was invited to the dental team’s weekly dinner “meeting” that they hold in one of the dentist’s homes.  Michelle Fisher welcomed me with a warm smile into her living room where I met the rest of the group while the older children entertained the youngest ones.

In a time when the bottom line is often the boss in a business, it’s clear that this group has not lost sight of their guiding principal – treat people like family.  “When you come to our office,” shares Michelle Fisher, “it’s like you are coming to our house.  It’s a feeling of family – we catch up with people.  This is our life, and we want to keep seeing the people in our life.”

While their commitment to family relationships is at the forefront, it goes hand in hand with state of the art dentistry and comprehensive dental care.  Fisher Jones provides routine dental care from a baby’s first tooth through the years.  The practice offers a full spectrum of specialized services including Invisalign, implants, in-house surgeries, ZOOM! whitening, cosmetic dentistry and sedation.

Dr. Garrett Barker, new to Fisher Jones in 2009 and a Capital High School grad, offers IV sedation in the office for patients with extreme fear or special needs. Dr. Barker’s expertise is a welcome addition to the practice.   When more specialized care needed, they call upon terrific relationships with other local providers and connect you with the right specialist for your needs.

Ten Fisher Jones employees have more than ten years of tenure with the Olympia dental practice.

The commitment to caring at Fisher Jones extends beyond the office and deep into the community. Beyond personal involvement in their churches and children’s schools, the practice donates to the North Thurston Education Foundation and the Olympia School District Education Foundation for every new patient seen.

One of their favorite community connections is outreach into local schools.  With Children’s Dental Health month in February, they are busy sharing with Olympia’s youngest patients about “Sugar Bugs” and how to combat them with good dental hygiene.  The group has developed their own coloring and activity book that helps educate kids, and their families, about proper care beginning at the first tooth.

Fisher Jones Family Dentistry’s office is a reflection of their focus on family and commitment to top notch care.  Not only is it a beautiful office with all the latest amenities, but it exudes warmth and comfort when you walk in the door – an important factor when you are in for treatment.  The large screen TV greets you with rotating pictures of the staff and their latest adventure whether it be a new baby, a fishing trip, an outreach visit to a local school, or shots of the Olympia Education Foundation’s latest play.  It’s a visual reminder of how much they value people, right there in the lobby.

Additionally, the reception area has a wonderful children’s play area, reflecting their commitment to pediatric dentistry.  Your child’s first visit is considered a “fun visit” and the doctors encourage both parents to attend.  At this visit, your child will be able to sit in the chair, touch the tools, and have their teeth counted.  “We want to see both parents at the first tooth,” shares Dr. Fisher.  “Both parents should get the same information in order to properly care for their child’s teeth because baby teeth are so important.”   The first cleaning is recommended at age 2 ½ to 3.  The goal of these first appointments is to establish trust and comfort in the dental office.

With Fisher Jones, it really is “family first.”  I experienced this so clearly when I was welcomed into the Fisher home.  And when you visit their office, you will experience their open arms and genuine care, both for your teeth and for your family.
