The South Sound Women’s Business Center will be beginning the next series of its “Business Launch & Grow Workshop” on January 29th. This is the second series that the SSWBC has presented in Thurston County. The workshop is an approved training program through the Washington State Employment Security Department’s Self-Employment Assistance Program (SEAP).  It is held weekly for ten weeks at the Business Resource Center housed at the Economic Development Council.

The workshop is designed for entrepreneurs who want to start a business or for those who wish to grow their existing businesses. Topics include products and services, customer identification, cash flow and projections, business plan development, marketing, business operations and management, financial management, business financing and loan application preparation. The workshop combines an interactive curriculum in a small group setting with the opportunity for students to give each other feedback, experiences and networking opportunities.

The South Sound Women’s Business Center has been expanding its entrepreneur and start-up business counseling and workshops to Thurston County. SSWBC has partnered with the Business Resource Center at the Thurston County Economic Development Council where Christine Buckley, SSWBC’s Business Assistance Officer, holds free individual counseling sessions and low-cost workshops. SSWBC works in partnership with the other resources available at the BRC such as SCORE, the SBDC (Small Business Development Center), and PTAC (Procurement and Technical Assistance Center).

Kay Christy, class graduate, states “I attended the Launch and Grow program expecting to learn how to start a business, and I got so much more. As a result of the class, I feel confident that I have the tools, the talent and the personality to successfully grow my ideas into a successful business.  The course offers concrete tools, along with professional support and expertise – meeting each participant where they are on their journey and customizing each class to fit the needs of the students involved. Christine’s teaching and facilitation is masterful and I would recommend her work to anyone growing a business idea.”

The Business Resource Center also now offers a SEAP approved eight week webinar class, for those wishing to start a business, but can’t get to the group class.

“The combination of resources available to entrepreneurs and small business owners at the Business Resource Center is exceptional”, says Buckley. “The Tacoma Business Center, located at Bates Technical College in downtown Tacoma, is another one of the few business centers that have collaboratively combined the unique talents of different organizations such as SCORE, PTAC, SBDC, and SSWBC in a center that is able to meet all the needs of small businesses.”
