This year, I decided to not overlook the beer drinkers at our Thanksgiving table. I spend a fair amount of effort sourcing delicious wines that match the appetizer and main courses but a good hostess would consider the non-wine drinkers joining us as well.
A quick phone call to locally owned Gravity Beer Market and I received an impressive list of beers that pair nicely with turkey dinner. “Choose a beer with a fruit flavor, such as a sour ale flavored with cherries to match the cranberry sauce side dish,” explains Lionel Espinoza, Manager of Gravity Beer Market. “Pumpkin ales, which have been going fast this year, also pair well.”
Review Espinoza’s picks and appease your beer drinkers on Thursday. All beers can be found at Gravity Beer Market, in downtown Olympia.
- The Dissident from Deschutes Brewery – sour brown ale brewed with cherries.
- Pumpkin Pie Gose from Epic Ales – German style wheat beer, brewed with sea salt and pumpkin pie spices
- Tre Fem from Hales Ales – a wonderful Belgian style brew, flavored with sour cherries
- The Abyss from Deschutes Brewery – an imperial stout which is a popular request during the holidays (arriving in the store on Tuesday)
- Saison Dupont from Brasserie Dupont – a Belgian style farmhouse ale with light notes of pear and lemon aromas and flavor, classic during Thanksgiving
- Espinoza also suggests a cranberry flavored hard apple cider from Blue Mountain Cider as an alternative to both beer and wine.
This Thanksgiving, the beer lovers will have even more reason to raise a toast.
